Now Available: Legislative Tools for Heritage Tree Protection

After more than a year of consultation and research, members of the Ontario Heritage Tree Alliance published Securing the Future of Heritage Trees: A Protection Toolkit for Communities. A Table of Contents can be found at this link for your review. Section “E” – Legislative Tools focuses on the key pieces of legislation available in Ontario for protecting trees. This component of the Toolkit is now available as a pdf file on this site by clicking on the link Legislative Tools. Please send queries and comments to Barbara Heidenreich.

Community heritage tree “Hunts” in Simcoe County and Elora contributed to the preparation of this report and the evaluation forms developed and presented in the Toolkit. Insights based on their experiences in nominating, evaluating and dedicating trees for protection can be obtained from David Pearl (Simcoe County) and from Toni Ellis (Elora).
